What is Hoopla?

A monthly dose of happiness for children aged 5 to 10 😊

Hoopla is a new 36-page monthly magazine with a focus on supporting children’s wellbeing.

Each magazine is packed full of ideas for fun off-screen activities to keep children’s minds and bodies active, such as art projects, outdoor activities and fun science experiments. There’s also a good news section, journalling pages, stories, puzzles, jokes and riddles.

Why is Hoopla magazine important?

The proportion of children in the UK who are experiencing mental health difficulties continues to increase (from 1 in 9 children in 2017 to 1 in 5 in 2023, according to NHS England).

Hoopla is full of ideas for activities that help to get kids active, outdoors and creative to keep them healthy and happy. It encourages children to start to processes and communicate their feelings.

Hoopla also raises awareness of children’s mental health and supports children’s mental health charity Place2Be, who provide counselling sessions for children in schools.

Good news guru Sam Bentley contributes curated snippets of happy news to keep kids up-to-date and lift their spirits.

Each edition will include a journalling spread with prompts that help children to express their thoughts and feelings through words and drawings.

Who is making Hoopla Magazine?

Hoopla is published by Launchpad Publishing, a small independent publishing house based in the Cotswolds. Launchpad Publishing has been producing award-winning children’s science magazine Whizz Pop Bang since 2015.

The company is run by founder Jenny Inglis, a mother of three who cares passionately about children’s wellbeing and happiness, and Hoopla has been born out of this.

Meet the team!

The magazine is produced by Launchpad Publishing’s team of accomplished children’s writers, illustrators and designers. Dr Naira Wilson, a clinical psychologist specialising in childhood mental health and author of children’s books supporting emotional wellbeing, will be Hoopla’s expert advisor.

How can children access Hoopla?

Hoopla is for all kids!

Hoopla is a real printed magazine, posted directly to children each month. A digital version is also be available. Parents and schools can to order subscriptions and individual copies of the magazines.

Launchpad Publishing is keen to make Hoopla available to all children, regardless of affordability.
